What happens at Melbourne Park rarely stays at Melbourne Park.
The impact reaches beyond the precinct as millions of people come to Melbourne Park each year for sport, music, entertainment and cultural experiences. Visitors book hotel rooms, restaurants and bars fill before and after events, trains and trams get busier, and their spending reaches businesses across the city and beyond.
Now, independent analysis by BDO Australia has put a figure on that wider contribution.
In 2025, Melbourne Park’s calendar of events, outside the Australian Open (AO), delivered more than $1.5 billion in economic and social value to Victoria.
Across 455 events, 2.7 million people came to Melbourne Park for international music, major sporting contests, theatre, family entertainment and community events, with this activity supporting over 13,500 jobs. More than 470,000 travelled from interstate or overseas, while another 359,000 came from regional Victoria. Together, visitors generated 1.2 million bed nights across the state.
Visitor spending was the primary driver of economic activity, contributing an estimated $936 million across accommodation, dining, transport, retail and entertainment.
These figures are for events outside the AO, the largest event in the southern hemisphere. When taken together, events held at the precinct contributed over $2 billion to Victoria in 2025, reinforcing Melbourne Park’s position as a globally significant destination for live experiences.
But Melbourne Park’s contribution goes beyond the economic, with demonstrable impact to civic pride, liveability, health and wellbeing and Melbourne’s global profile.
For people attending events at Melbourne Park, it’s about the value of what they take home with them. The memory of seeing an international artist live, the tension of a grand final, thousands of school students performing on one of Melbourne’s biggest stages, or a family event that becomes an annual tradition.
Those experiences shape how people experience a city and how visitors remember it. Taken together, the findings tell a bigger story about Melbourne Park’s contribution to Melbourne and Victoria – economically, socially and culturally.
Our calendar is ever evolving. There will be new tour announcements, sporting competitions, performances and experiences that continue to bring different audiences to Melbourne Park in the years ahead.
