John Harnden AM

John Harnden is one of Australia’s most experienced sports, entertainment and major events leaders, with more than 35 years at the helm of globally significant events, venues and precincts at the intersection of sport, entertainment, tourism, and city-shaping infrastructure.

As Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne Park, Harnden leads an exceptional team at Australia’s epicentre of live events, home of the world famous Australian Open, nine of Australia’s most successful sporting teams, and six world-class venues. Under his leadership, Melbourne Park has continued evolving as a globally recognised live events destination and a major driver of Victoria’s visitor economy, cultural identity and international reputation. 

John’s varied career has positioned him at the nexus of standalone global events, world-class infrastructure and tourism, providing unique and widely recognised expertise across sports, entertainment, venue operations, integrated precinct development and the role cultural and sporting infrastructure plays in shaping globally competitive cities.
